- Eat a lot of rich, oily food ?
- Don't have the budget to go for an Electric Chimney ?
- Kitchen Exhaust Fan maintenance becoming a headache ?
Don't worry !!!!! Here are a few simpler ways to make the maintenance a little bit easier:
- In the first instance detach your Exhaust Fan. Before detaching it notice the places where the Exhaust Fan becomes extremely dirty.
- Dismantle it completely & dip the plastic parts (not the motor) into a hot water solution with soap.
- Once your cleaning & drying is complete your actual work starts. Pickup your old newspaper & cut pieces of different shapes to cover up places where your Exhaust Fan used to get most dirty.
- Cover the flaps facing the exit with a single role of newspaper & some ahesive tape.
- Remember the sizes you have cut so that you can make & keep some in spare for future use.
- Now mount your Exhaust Fan once again
Thats it !!!!! Whenever you find your Exhaust Fan to appear very dirty, just replace the newspaper roles. Isn't that simple. I personally use this methodology & am benefiting from the same.

how can you clean the actual motor? ours makes a horrific noise when its turned on.
Thanks for writing. Since you said that your fan makes horrific noises, I feel that the fan Blades rather than the motor is the root cause of all the problem. Dismount your unit & check whether the Blades are touching somewhere. If so, ensure that the alignment of the fan's spindle is correct & the fan is rotating correctly rather than wobling. If you still feel that its the motor causing the problem, you have to remove all parts (flaps, blades, power connections) & finally dismount the motor from the main unit. I feel it would be best getting your motor serviced from a knowledgeable person rather than taking the risk of fiddling with it & spoiling the same. Rememeber, the motor is THE most expensive unit of the fan :)
